Traveling with a BIG family!

We go to Walt Disney World regularly because my family loves it, but it also helps shape how I advise my clients. This trip we had a party of 17 and I learned many things as we navigated the trip! Here are some of my takeaways:

  1. Understand the expectations: Start with a conversation before the trip to understand what each persons “must-haves” are. I wanted to be sure we left Orlando with no regrets. Most of these are known by a Disney regular but you never know when someone if your group grew up on Country Bear Jamboree.

  2. Plan and be flexible: This sounds contradictory but make a plan and then be flexible. Genie+ will change your day based on real time reservations you can grab. Be ready to be flexible around those. With that being said, I viewed our party of 17 as a barge and once we started in one direction I tried not to make big changes. Once in motion it’s hard to change until after your next experiences.

  3. Understand Genie+: Know that you cannot book Genie+ for more than 10 and any time. Whoever is leading the group will need a buddy to ensure you can get similar times. This is especially true at 7:00 AM when it opens and you’re trying to land one of the big attractions.

  4. Plan to mobile order: Teach your group how to mobile order. Here’s the link to send them. This helps shorten long eating times with big groups and you can’t simply order for everyone in a group this size.

  5. Potty and snack breaks: Have formal bathroom breaks! We had 8 kids so someone always had to go to the bathroom but when we didn’t stop regularly I found us stopping all the time for one offs. Same is true for snacks. Plan time to sit down and rest near some yummy snacks!

There is really nothing like a big family trip to Walt Disney World and I am so happy we were able to do it!
